What kind of sedative do they use when doing dental work on children?

My daughter has a dental appt to get dental work and they will have to use a general ansthetic on her. My husband is allergic to a certian kind, I'm not so he is afraid it is going to hurt my daughter. We have called the ansthetic people twice, but no return calls. Does anyone on here know?

Whoa! They aren't returning calls. That is NOT acceptable and you need to find a new oral surgeon immediately.

What you need to do is request a pre-procedure meeting with your oral surgeon/dentist. If someone else administers the sedatives, that person (not a representative) must be present. You (or your insurance) may need to pay, but given that this can be a life-or-death matter, it's worth it.

The anesthesiologist (whether this is a specialty or the oral surgeon) will ask for the family history. Based on information provided by your husband, a course of action will be determined. that may include testing your daughter. Or choosing a different sedative.

If a general is used, nitrous oxide is the old standby. I understand it's used less and less, however.

In the end, you need to speak to the anesthesiologist/oral surgeon and NOT take advise from people on the internet.
