Please help me. I am an unemployed student in need of serious dental work.?

I take great care of my teeth but they are falling apart anyway! I have no dental insuriance and I need like $3,000 worth of work. I can not pay that much money for anything..Does anyone know of state sponcered dental insuriance or anything I could do? I live in Michigan.

Michigan has two dental schools: One at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, the other is at the University of Detroit Mercy. If you live near one of those places, you should go there for dental care. Their fees are about half that of a regular dentist and the quality of care provided by dental students are quite good (they are supervised, of course).





There is one other school close to southwestern Michigan, and that's the dental school at the University of Illinois in Chicago.

Reply:Look for a dental school. Sometimes they will do work for free or at a giant discount in order to get patients for their students.

Reply:That's quite a bit of work. I suggest you contact the nearest reputable dental school (preferably at a university) and ask if they will take you. Even though a student may do the work, an instructor should be standing by watching or even assisting. I once had my teeth cleaned for free (a friend was testing to be a dental hygienist).
Reply:If you are under 21 and low income, you may qualify for state assisted insurance or Medicade. If that is not an option, check your communities social service office for where the local free/low cost health care clinic is, they often have a dental facility attached to them. Sadly, if you are over 21, you may be out of luck for any medical assistance from medicade, the feds seem to not grasp the concept of how much bad dentition affects the health of low income people. If you are in pain, last resort is the emergency room, they can at least give you some antibiotics to help heal any abscesses and some pain meds. If your school has a healhcare facility on campus, they may be able to help you at a fairly low cost. Good luck , I know its miserable. I learned to drain my own abscesses and pack the holes in my teeth with dental cement to hold off some of the misery when I was a broke single mother working 3 dead end jobs.

Reply:a dental school is best however you might want to pick up a cheap plan and then cancel after your done with the work itd be ALOT cheaper. the company i work for offers discount healthcare and it saves you up to 80% on dental things like orthodontics (braces etc) cleanings teeth whitenings, x-rays, caps and crowns, etc plus you get vision (lasik surgery eyeglasses contacts etc) and prescription and chiropractic all included in the monthly price which is $11.95 i think it would be worth it for you to get it use it then cancel it if you dont want to pay anymore.
