Why would my dad rather build his restaurant than pay for my dental work?

We got a check for a couple of thousand from the government and he wants to save it (aka spend it on his restaurant) than pay for my dental work. With that money, all my dental stuff can be done quickly rather than drawn out over months. There would still be money left over. Can anyone explain his reasoning to me?

P.S I know for a fact (courtesy of my mother) that he wants to spend it on his restaurant.

Why would my dad rather build his restaurant than pay for my dental work?
Your Dad is probably looking at the long term future of your whole family, not just the here and now.

He might also feel that you haven't lived up to your responsibilities of taking care of your teeth.
Reply:Maybe its been his dream to own a restaurant and he wants to build on it and make it better.
Reply:seems kind of selfish of him. Talk to him about it and let him know that he needs to put his family before his work.
Reply:investing it in a restaurant means it will grow and eventually pay for more than your teeth that you need...like maybe a post secondary education?

unless his place is a dive and hes only putting the money in cause its crashing and he owes that much....
Reply:Your dad is out of touch. I take it this is essential dental work and not cosmetic?

If so, perhaps your mother will talk to him for you?
Reply:His money is his. Why do you think you are entitled to spend his money on you?

Better answer: Perhaps he thinks that by spending it on his restaurant, he will be able to give you more later. Think long-term.
Reply:Because he can get some sort of return on his restaurant (money wise) but not on your teeth. In other words, if he spends it on his restaurant then he is investing it and can get more money in return. If he spends it on your teeth then it is simply gone.
Reply:my mum did the same thing except it was a new car, to her my teeth aren't as important as a new car.. its something that when it comes down to, there decision's is,

put money in business so i can make more money and pay your dental slowly with insurance, or pay for your dental and have a harder time with business, hes your dad and hopefully he isnt being selfish, and is doing it for the greater good of the family, more business more money. maybe you need to tell him how important to you your teeth are.
Reply:If it's being paid for over months then don't sweat it. You'll get them fixed within the year.

The restaurant business is very difficult. A huge percentage of restaurants don't make it past a couple of years.

He proabably just wants to save some money in case he hits hard times and can't provide for his family.
Reply:The restuarant will help pay for more than just your teeth.
Reply:my dad is a dentist so i understand the importance of wanting dental work completed. did you know that most dental problems (cavities) are preventable? with daily brushing %26amp; flossing, watching out for candy %26amp; sugar drinks you can avoid expensive %26amp; extensive dental work. (i have brushed %26amp; flossed my whole life %26amp; only have 1 filling!) perhaps your father realizes this. did you keep up your dental health or did you just figure you can go to the dentist to take care of your lack of dental care? if the family needs income from the restaurant he may be thinking of what is best for the family unit %26amp; not just one person.

just a thought...

good luck brushing %26amp; flossing more often!
Reply:He could make more money off a restaurant. With that money he could pay for the dental work and then some.
Reply:Pull out on of your rotten teeth and stick it one of his meatloaf dishes at his fancy restaurant.
Reply:Thanks for answering my questions.... :-)

Since you are under 18 and still being supported by him, and this is NOT cosmetic dentistry, he should pay for it.

Sit down with him and have an adult conversation. No whining or pouting. Just ask him if he would be willing to help you pay for your dental work. If he says he'll help, great. If not, you still have your dignity.
Reply:The restaurant could be a long term investment that makes him a long term income. Your dental work may seem like something that can wait and be spread out over time. As a parent I think I'd be putting the dental work first but that is just me.

Another thing to consider is if it is his money then you really have no say and no right to expect any of it. As long as you get your dental work, even if it's not as quickly as you hoped, then he is still fulfilling his responsibility to you.

He may also have financial issues that you and even your mother do not know about. If he is having financial troubles with the restaurant (if he already owns one) or is having difficulty coming up with the money to open one he may not be telling anyone.

Talk to him calmly and respectfully about how you're feelings.

Best of luck!
Reply:well maybe he wants to start his new restaurant to make the big bucks after that he will spend the money he makes there on ur dental work so it a win win hope this helps

ps . i know this is off topic but do u like twlight (best series ever!!!!!!!) :) hope this helps
Reply:I think he don't have the money to pay for your dental work. Or it could be, that he had this dream in him to build a restaurant.
