Dental work while pregnant?

I am 6 weeks pregnant and I am pretty certian I have an abccess in my tooth - is it safe to get dental work done while pregnant? also is it safe to take antibiotics and to have a local annistetic injection into the gum to have an extraction done?

yes and if u dont get it taken care of it gets worse anyway and u can end up in the emergency room. the infection also can go into your blood stream, because your gums and teeth have blood vessels that run through them and u dont want it going to the heart or hurting the baby.
Reply:I'm not sure about the antibiotics but your Dr will answer that but the local is fine. you need to tell them that you are pregnant and they will contact your Dr. sense you are only 6 weeks I'm going to guess you haven't seen a Dr yet. call the office and tell them what is going on and they should be able to get you into an appointment soon. if you haven't picked a Dr yet you might try to go to the dentist and ask them they may have a Dr they always call on and refer you to them. good luck
Reply:Yes it is definitely safe. If you have an abscess you really need to see a doctor and get rid of that infection.. now THAT will harm your baby and you. Just make sure you tell your dentist that you are pregnant and you will be fine.
Reply:A local anesthetic is fine while pregnant and now is the best time to see dentist because after a certain time the dentist may not want to work on your teeth. As far as antibiotics are concerned I believe amoxil(not sure of name) is one you may be able to take but best person to tell you would be dentist or doctor. Make sure you tell dentist how far pregnant you are. I bet you won't need an extraction but could need to have root canal work done. Congrats. on your pregnancy and good luck. Hope you get rid of absess real soon. It must ache a lot.
Reply:it's not good to do that when u pregnant, u have to talk to Ur doctor about it. But remember that u can't take any antibiotics or have anesthetic injection, or any drags......not good for baby. Talk to the doctor if it's really important to do and u have no choice Ur doc will tell u what to do.
Reply:there are some kinds of antibiotics you can take while pregnant just make sure you tell them when your there in the UK its free to get dental work done while your pregnant and its totally safe
Reply:yes you can get dental work done while pregnant, if you have abcess that is an infection and your baby can get infected as well. I had a root canal done at 6 months. my dentist told me that 2nd trimester is the best time to get dental work done. My obgyn dr told me not to have any kind of numbing medicine with "epi" in it.
