Is it okay to go to dental students if you need a lot of work done?

Would it be better to stick with one dentist? The dental school near me takes people on first come first serve basis and you cannot ask for the same person twice though you may actually be able to get the same person twice. I've started haveing pain, so my teeth are definately getting worse but I'm having trouble affording what the dentists charge just for consultations, let alone the actual work.

Would you rather not go at all? They do a pretty good job. My friend has been going to my other friend's dental school to get all her teeth problems fixed. She had a lot of cavities because she could never afford a dentist before. Now she has healthy teeth and isn't broke. It's better than having the teeth die and fall out due to lack of care.
Reply:I would say it depends on your comfort level. Even though they are only dental students they are working under the direction of licensed dentist.





I see no harm in going, plus it is good practice for up and coming dentist.
Reply:dental students need test subjects. besides you have about 32 teeth in your mouth, whats it matter if the dental student accidentally removes the wrong one
Reply:Dental schools are a good deal. The student is being graded on the work and the work is inspected by their teacher. You get a good price with great work under those circumstances. Go for it!

Reply:Dental students NEED challenging patients while they are honing their skills. You'll pay less if you go to a school to have your work done (especially cleanings) and there are certified, experienced teacher-dentists overseeing their students' work throughout the visit. By all means, take advantage!
Reply:I am in a dental school, and I can say that although we are still learning, we try to do our very best , besides we have to do a lot of phantom work before we are alotted any patients, so its not just out of the blue that a patient is alotted to any student, we have to do hours of work on a phantom first, besides we know that watever we do will be evaluated by the teacher, so I guess you can go to a dental college, and rest assured.
