Does dental work fall in the catagory of medical expenses in a divorce situation with the childern?

I pay for medical insurance for my kids and child support. should the money from child support pay for dental work?

Does dental work fall in the catagory of medical expenses in a divorce situation with the childern?
I beleive it is separate. In my husband's divorce decree it states medical, vision, and dental all separetely. I'd say if it dosent state them specifically, then you arent responsible for them. Just a fluke of the family court systems!
Reply:I consider dental bills to be medical expenses. If you do not have insurance to cover these expenses, you should split the cost.
Reply:No, thats separate
Reply:yes it does and also vision.
Reply:It depends upon how it is worded in your divorce decree...I am responsible for 1/2 of all medical/dental work for our children...
Reply:When I think of 'medical' I think of doctor visits. I believe that medical and dental are separate. That's why when you sign up for insurance at your job, medical and dental are two separate types of insurance. If you carry medical, why not dental? Does the mother have dental on them? If not, I believe that HALF of the bill should be covered by your child support, and the other half should be her responsibility. But to be on the safe side, since you have medical coverage, maybe she should get dental (if she doesn't already)
Reply:If you have dental insurance, then the ex could use that for dental work?

and if your divorce papers state you have to pay a certain percentage of dental care, then you do. it's simple as that.

look at your divorce papers and see what they say.

i never argued with my ex about medical and dental expenses. i just paid them... our child remained on his medical insurance and he paid support. i figured that was enough.

take care.
Reply:When I got my divorce...I paid for the insurance (she didn't have any) I paid for dental insurance....We split the bills for eyes and medicines etc.
Reply:Child support falls under housing, food %26amp; clothing. Unfortunately, All medical (including dental) must be split equally between parents. My daughter just had a $1000 root canal last spring, her father had to pay $500. And he does pay child support as well.
Reply:Child support pays for what ever the child needs so if they need dental work then yes its to pay 4 that but usually the parents do a 50/50 thing on that unless stated other wise. Whoever is collecting the child support can even pay portions of the ultilites w/ that money.
Reply:if the husband and wife punch out each others teeth, its probly relevant to the divorce then
Reply:i think yes it has to do with there health
Reply:We have separate dental and health insurance. If it isn't stipulated, then you need a clarification. And routine

dental appointments without insurance are quite expensive.

Offer to split the expense, if neither of you has dental insurance.
Reply:Dental would fall into Medical... check with your lawyer!
Reply:If you have any out of pocket expenses after the insurance pays then y ou are responsible for half of those costs. I know its frusterating but you need to pay for half of them because that is how things work. Yopu have wonderful children that you have to take care of and dont fight with the ex over it just take care of it so the children will not see you fighting about it
Reply:usually it is considered a medical expense and non-covered costs are generally split 50-50, but check your court order to be sure
Reply:Dental work is a legitimate medical expense

unless it's purely cosmetic.
Reply:If you child need his jaw broken to re-adjust his/ her alignment this is covered under your medical benefits not dental or if your child has a lazy eye this is covered under medical insurance not vision benefits. It all depends on the way your divorce is written usually it's states anything not covered by insurance will be split 50 / 50 by both parties if dental insurance is not available or does not cover 100% he is liable for 50%. trying calling a Attorney for a free consultation. Good Luck!!!
