Chewed up cheecks after dental work help!?

My daughter 4, had dental work done. She was numbed and she bit her cheeks up really bad. It has been 3 days and she still has chipmonk cheeks. She finally let me look inside her mouth and it is bad. What can i do to help it heal and take away the pain?? She wont let me touch her face.

I would go back to the dentist or go see a doctor and you could try giving her Ora-gel or another mouth painkiller or a baby aspirin for the pain until you can get there. You just have to let her trust you, eventually she will give in so you can help her. Don't worry. :)
Reply:If you can explain to her how to do it, or ask her to do it - have her rinse with salt water. It will help heal the cheeks. If it is swollen, you can try to put some ice packs on her cheeks. But be sure and wrap them in a towel or something so it's not too cold. If it is really bad, the best thing to do is to call your dentist or doctor and ask them if they have any ideas or if they can see her. Good luck.
Reply:IT GOING TO BE HARD TO DO,BUT SOME ORAJEL OR AMESOL MAY BE PLACED USING A COTTON SWAB OVER THE AFFECTED AREA.


YOUR DAUGTER BIT HER CHEEKS/AND OR TONGUE AFTER HAVING ANESTHESIA. SHE WILL BENEFIT FROM SWISHING WITH SALT WATER TO HELP HEAL THE TRAUMATIZED TISSUES. 1/2 TEASPOON OF SALT DISSOLVED IN 8 ONCES OF WATER.


THE SWELLING OF HER CHEEKS WILL DECREASE WITH TIME.
Reply:I would highly recommend a call to the dentist....if you can make a game out of it ...try to have her gargle with salt water. This will help pull some of the bacteria out of the "wounds". You want her to do the salt water gig about every 1/2 hour.


Also it might be a good idea for her to have some Tylenol or Motrin (children's of course) for the next 24 hours...you know to help the swelling go down.





Does she like popsicles ...get her some..this time try to stay away from 100 % juice pops simply because the fruit may have natural acids in them that may cause stinging in her mouth!!! Mouth injuries usually heal really fast!!


Definitely double check with the dentist!!!

I would stay away from ora gel simply because being numb caused this mess in the first place
Reply:i dont know about the healing , warm salt water maybe as a gargle but at her age would she know to wash her mouth out and not swallow that, call the doctor i would say. poor kid.
Reply:She probably needs some antibiotics as she has infected herself with her own saliva. Sorry to say... Get in touch with your dentist. He/she may even call in a prescription without seeing her.
