My partner and I are trying for a baby, my last period was on July 17th and we have had plenty of unprotected after that. I have to have some dental work done today, specifically x-rays and a root canal or removal of a molar. It would be too soon for a pregnancy test to come back positive if we are pregnant so what would be the safest course to take with this dental work? I don't want to accidentaly harm our child if there is one.
TTC and dental work.?
I would tell the dentist that you think you might be pregnant, they won't be x-raying your stomach so that shouldn't be a problem and any medication is done locally so that also shouldn't be a problem. You should make sure that any medical professional knows that you are trying and that you might be pregnant that way they can try to do everything as if you were pregnant.
Reply:When you got to the Dentist's office let them know that you are trying to get pregnant. Tell them there is a possibility that you may already be pregnant. They will let you know what is the safest way to continue.
Reply:dont get xrays if there is a chance you are pregant! my dentist can do root canals on pregnant women without xrays..........no xrays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:There is no evidence to indicate that x-ray from dental work (which they protect your reproductive organs with a lead shield) or the gas or any other anaesthesia has any harmful effects on the foetus. It would also not have an effect on the outcome of a pregnancy test.
Reply:Just let them know that you might be pregnant and then they can take appropriate precautions (eg wearing a lead apron if x-rays are needed)
