Dental work during pregnancy?

I am not certain I am pregnant yet, but I will know for sure in a few days; I have been bugging my dentist non-stop so I figure I would ask one of you ladies who have been there. I scheduled an appointment to get my wisdom teeth pulled on March 31 before I knew I may be. There are going to put me under (anesthesia) and cut them out. Is it safe to get this sort of dental work done during pregnancy or should I reschedule for a year or more from now (of course not until I am certain I am pregnant)?

Dental work during pregnancy?
NO DENTAL WORK (except for cleanings) during the first rimester...period. after that first 12 week period, most obgyn's will allow necessary treatment also xrays wont hurt then but ask to have two lead shields placed over your abdomen anyway. Dont have it done until you know for sure! The anesthetic has warnings on the box, you dont want to risk birth defects or miscarriage even if it is a minimal risk. Good luck!
Reply:Get a pregnancy test. When you know for sure, decide. In the meantime, don't cancel your appointment just yet. They'll understand if you are pregnant and may be able to offer an alternative, but probably not. Be sure you tell your dentist if you are pregnant whether or not you get the surgery as you won't be wanting x-rays while you're pregnant.
Reply:if u dont trust home pregnancy test, u can go to your local clinic and take the test. it only takes an hour to find out if you are positive. i'm now pregnant with my second child and dont have any problem going to the dentist at all. just let them know that u are pregnant. my first pregnancy, i had my wisdom tooth pulled out. the doctor gave me an anesthesia (for pregnant ). dont think about rescheduling it because its not good to have a oral infection and can affect your entire body.
Reply:i had fillings early in my pregnancy, even x-rays. for x-ray they covered me with a special thick rubber cover to be on the safe side. as far as pain medication even my obgyn said i was not problem and no harm to the baby
Reply:There are some anesthetics that are safe during pregnancy. Check with your doctor or OB to see which ones those are. Then just take precautions with your surgery as if you were pregnant, even though you may not be.
